Know Your Seat

Hello everyone! Today we’re going to talk about online shopping. Specifically shopping online for items that most of us prefer to shop for in person. With the markets changing and with events like COVID-19 more and more brick and mortar stores are closing. So how are you supposed to buy a saddle if the local store closes down? Online seems to be the next best option especially if you live in Texas and the next closest saddle store is 2-3 hours away.

There are hundreds of different saddles for sale online. Whenever we have bought saddles we just went into our local store, looked at the selection, and got to try different saddles so we could FEEL what the saddle felt like. Obviously, you can’t do that online. But knowing your saddle seat size will allow you to purchase saddles online. This is the best we can do with shopping for saddles online.

That being said we’ve known some folks who have purchased some really good quality saddles this way that fit them well. If you don’t know your saddle seat size here is how you find it. For western saddles, you want the measurement from the top of the gullet right against the swell to the stitch line on the cantle. For English saddles measure from the brad/nail on the side of the pommel to the middle of the cantle. For most saddles, this measurement will be between 14-18 inches. Once you have your measurement you’re ready to begin shopping online.

There is an advantage to shopping online. You have access to a large selection of choices vs being limited to what is in stock at your local store. You might be surprised at what you find. We have found a few saddles for you, so be sure to peruse our selection by clicking here!
